Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 926

This specimen was lot 926 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,560 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Philippe IV le Bel (1285-1314), AV agnel d'or, janvier 1311. D/ L'agneau pascal deb. à g., t. à d., devant une croix avec gonfanon. En dessous, Ph' REX. R/ Croix ornée dans un quadrilobe orné de fleurons et cantonné de quatre lis. Très rare Patine colorée. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Philip IV the Fair, 1285-1314, undated gold lamb, struck January 1311. Obverse: the Paschal lamb walking left, head to right and bearing a cross with a banner; below: "Ph'REX"; reverse: ornate cross in a quadrilobe cantonned with four lilies. Very rare, colorful toning, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This agnel d'or, worth 20 sols tournois, would also be struck during the reigns of Louis X and Philip V.
