Florence (1479)-B grosso
This specimen was lot 46832 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Florence. Grosso, ND (1478). Florence Mint. Bertoldo Corsini. PCGS AU-58. From the Richard Margolis Collection." The grossi of Florence were not dated but can be attributed by the presence of the mintmaster's arms on the obverse, in this case, the arms of Bertoldo Corsini. Numista states this type was struck 1465-83 with Corsini in office twice, in 1479 and again in 1487. This type shows a banner labeled "ECCE" under St. John's arm; this was omitted on later issues. The face value was 6 soldi and 8 denari.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.1 g, 0.958 fine silver.
Catalog reference: Biaggi-801; Bernocchi-3152.
