This specimen was lot 1979 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,525 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Florenz, Repubblica, 1189-1532. Fiorino d'oro o. J. (1332), Firenze. Mit dem Münzmeisterzeichen "Gotisches A" (Rosso di Aldobrandino). Fast vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (Italy, republic of Florence, 1189-1532, undated gold florin, circa 1332, Florence mint, Gothic "A" mintmark for Rosso di Aldobrandino. About Extremely Fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"
The gold florin was intended to compete with the Venetian ducat but is today much scarcer. Later, the florin dropped in weight and purity and became the goldgulden.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.51 g.
