"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips de Schone (1482-1506), AR halve stuiver (halve mecheleer), z.j. (2e emissie, 1485), Brugge. Vz/ Wapen van Oostenrijk-Bourgondië in het veld. Obverse: arms of Austria-Burgundy in the field; reverse: long cross cantonned with two lions and two lilies. Rare, irregular planchet, very fine.)"

One stuiver was two groats or 1/20 of a gulden. A similar coin was struck in Brabant, where it was called a demi-patard. The reverse legend, "✠ BENEDIC ⸰ ANIMA ⸰ MEA ⸰ DNO," translates as "Bless my soul, O Lord". Wikipedia comments,

"Philip was only four years old when his mother died in 1482, resulting in him succeeding her as ruler of the Burgundian possessions under the guardianship of his father. A period of turmoil ensued which witnessed sporadic hostilities between, principally, the large towns of Flanders (especially Ghent and Bruges) and the supporters of Maximilian. Philip became caught up in events and his custody was taken away by a council appointed by the Netherlandish Estates as part of the larger Flemish campaign to support their claims of greater autonomy.... It was only in the summer of 1485 that Maximilian, marching into Ghent with German troops..., could embrace his son again."

Recorded mintage: unknown.
