This specimen was lot 791 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €140 (about US$194 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Lodewijk van Nevers (1322-1346), AR groot met de leeuw, 1340-1343, Gent. Vz/ MONETA FLAND' Klimmende leeuw n. l. met daarboven een adelaar, in een boord van elf cirkelbogen waarin een hulstblad en één met een leeuw. Kz/ Lang gevoet kruis. Binnenomschrift: LVD-OVI-C' CO-MES. (county of Flanders, Louis of Nevers, 1322-46, silver groat of the lion, circa 1340-43, Ghent mint. Obverse: lion rampant left under an eagle inside a circle of arches with holly leaves and lions; reverse: long cross with double row inscription. Very Fine.)"

Louis was count of Flanders, Nevers and Rethel. His support of Philip V of France irked his subjects, who were dependent on English wool for their livelihood. Louis was killed at the Battle of Crécy in 1346 and succeeded by his son, Louis II. Varieties exist.
