Sincona sale 89, lot 524

This specimen was lot 524 in Sincona sale 89 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIEN Flandern, Grafschaft, Louis I. de Crécy, 1322-1346. Gros o. J. (1337-1338), Aalst. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Exemplar der Auktion Münzen & Medaillen Deutschland GmbH 1, Stuttgart, September 1997, Los 1093. (Belgium, county of Flanders, Louis of Crecy, 1322-46, undated groat, circa 1337-38, Aalst mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Nicely toned.)"

Louis I was count of Flanders, Nevers and Rethel 1322-46. He supported the king of France while his subjects supported the king of England. He was killed at the battle of Crécy.
