Heritage auction 354, lot 18326
H354-18326r.jpg

This specimen was lot 18326 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $10,350. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Tropico, CA - $10 1902 Date Back Fr. 622 The First NB Ch. # (P)10412. This was one of the two notes from this no longer in existence location that were at the heart of Charley Colver's southern California holdings. We referred to them as his "crown jewels" in his catalogue, and noted that there were only three notes known from Tropico, one of which had never been on the market and the others Charley's pair. Each of the notes in the Colver sale realized an identical $9350. With both of the other known Tropico notes now locked up, perhaps for a very extended period, this may offer the final opportunity for any collector of our generation to acquire a note from this one bank town. Nice Very Fine."

Tropico is now the southern part of Glendale and the bank changed its name to Glendale National Bank, California.
