The catalog description[1] noted, "Santa Paula, CA - $5 1902 Date Back Fr. 592 The First NB Ch. # (P)4120. One of two notes in the Horwedel collection from this just plain rare Ventura County bank. Your cataloguer sold this piece to Lowell in the early 1990's and has not owned one since. Very Good-Fine."

The catalog description[1] noted, "Santa Paula, CA - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 600 The First NB & TC Ch. # (P)4120. The second and considerably scarcer of the two titles used here. Just four notes are known with this nomenclature, with even the Colver collection lacking a note with this title. Bright Fine+++."

This specimen was lot 14813 in Heritage auction 456 (Orlando, FL, January 2008), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rare Santa Paula Brown Back. Santa Paula, CA - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 484 The First NB Ch. # 4120. This is one of only two early notes known from this scarce Ventura County bank, and the first Brown Back offered from here in at least two decades. Notes from this community are highly sought after, with even low grade Blue Seals fetching a couple of thousand dollars on the few occasions they have been available. This Brown Back grades Fine, but some soiling must be mentioned as well. Expect collector demand to see that bidding climbs into the range of... From The Kansas City Collection."
