Sincona sale 93, lot 1305

This specimen was lot 1305 in Sincona sale 93 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 50 CHF (about US$69 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Nicholas II. 1894-1917, 1 Penni 1907, Helsinki. Mintage for Finland. Missing serif on "7". Seltene Variante, Rare variety. NGC MS64 RD."

This type was struck 1895, 1898-1916 and the 1907 is a common date. In 1917, the Finns declared independence from Russia and successfully defeated Russian attempts to reconquer the country. The SCWC notes this "missing serif" variety but awards it no premium.

Recorded mintage: 2,490,000.
