This specimen was lot 29374 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russian Duchy gold 20 Markkaa 1880-S MS64 NGC. As the undisputed key date in the series, this superior example glistens with harvest-gold surfaces and original mint bloom. Rare as such." This type is listed for 1879-80 and 1891 and was struck to the standard of a French gold twenty francs.
Recorded mintage: 90,000.
Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW, 21.3 mm diameter.
