This specimen was lot 29520 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,995. The catalog description[1] noted, "Montfort. Ernst Max Josef gold 1/2 Carolin 1735 XF45 NGC, KM153, Fr-557. A scarce gold issue from the region of Montfort with the bust of Ernst Max Josef and Mitred, helmeted, and mantled arms. Having been struck with rusty-dies, this coin exhibits fairly porous surfaces, as well as a reverse flan flaw and a somewhat shallow obverse strike--all of which are within the confines of the assigned grade. Even so, a wonderful type that hasn't been seen in the marketplace for quite some time, and rare in its own right."
