This specimen was lot 42918 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mainz. 5 Sols, 1793. Friedrich Karl Josef (1774-1802). PCGS MS-63 RB Gold Shield. KM-603; Gad-67. Struck during the siege of Mainz which took place between 14 April to 23 July 1793. An alliance between Prussia, Austria and German States besieged and captured Mainz from Revolutionary French forces. When negotiations failed the allied forces began bombarding the city on the night of 17 June. A spectacular example for the issue which was manufactured under extremely stressful conditions."
