This specimen was lot 22269 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Montreal. Sou, ND (1837). NGC AU-55 BN. LC-20A2. By Joseph Roy. Struck on a thin flan. RARE in this state of preservation. Mr. Joseph Roy was a dry goods merchant in Montreal. The tokens were condemned by the press, because many of them were lightweight, despite Mr. Roy's specific instructions to the minter to make them the same weight as the then current bank tokens. Well struck with attractive chocolate brown patina. With old collectors ticket."
