This specimen was lot 3397 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "FIJI: Elizabeth II, 1952-1987, 1 dollar, 1970, medal alignment variety, a superb example, PCGS graded Proof 65." This coin commemorates Fijian independence day, October 10, 1970. Tensions between indigenous Fijians and Indo-Fijians (descendants of indentured laborers brought to the islands 1879-1916) have resulted in coups d'état in 1987, 2000 and 2006.
Recorded mintage: 15,000 plus 15,000 proofs plus 1,000 silver proofs.
Specification: 28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter, lettered edge; KM 33a is 0.925 fine silver.
