This specimen was lot 49423 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Narva (Estonia). 4 Ore, 1671-LN. Narva Mint. Karl XI. NGC EF Details--Scratches. Variety without inner circle. Ex: Eric P. Newman. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green." The Swedes conquered Estonia from the Livonian Knights early in the sixteenth century. Peter the Great greatly desired possession of Estonia and occupied it in 1710; the Swedes formally ceded it to him in 1721. It remained Russian until after World War One. The Narva mint operated briefly in the early 1670's and struck one, two and four öre. This denomination was struck in numerous varieties in 1671 (KM 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 6, 7, 8, 9.1 and 9.2). This one shows the mintmaster's initials below the shield and lacks inner circles.
