Estonia (15)62 1/4 mark
This specimen was lot 1064 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "ESTONIA: Eric XIV, of Sweden, 1560-1568, AR ¼ mark, Reval (Tallinn), [15]62, much original mint luster, AU, R." Two ore was a quarter mark; eight marks was (roughly) a riksdaler and ten marks was (also roughly) a ducat in gold. A quarter mark was a ferding. This type was struck 1561-62, both with two digit dates. Fiscal manipulations were frequent in Sweden during this period so equivalents are approximate. Peter the Great greatly desired possession of Estonia and occupied it in 1710; the Swedes formally ceded it to him in 1721. It remained Russian until after World War One.
