This specimen was lot 17698 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $7,187.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Escondido, CA - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr-625 The Escondido NB Ch. # 8040, A handsome example from this just plain rare Escondido bank. This is the highest grade note recorded from this institution, with this offering marking only the third time in the past sixty years that collectors have had the opportunity to add a note from here to their holdings. Bright Very Fine, with vivid purple signatures."

This specimen was lot 20655 in Heritage auction 3567 (Long Beach, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $5,280. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Rare Escondido, CA Large Size National Escondido, CA - $20 1902 Date Back Fr-643 The Escondido NB Ch. # (P)8040. A just plain rare note from one of the toughest multi-bank towns in California. This San Diego County community had three issuing banks, one of which has only a single note reported and the other two available only when collections such as Colver, Horwedel, and High Desert come on the market. This offering is one of just six notes in the census and the only Date Back of any denomination. A pleasing mid-grade PMG Very Fine 25 with just a small tear, it is the first note from this charter to cross the public auction block in over a dozen years."

The catalog description[1] noted, "Escondido, CA - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr-651 The Escondido NB Ch. # 8040, This example, from the Colver collection, was the only note from this bank Charley could come up with in fifty years of diligent searching. It grades a pleasing Fine, with sharp violet signatures, and will likely realize just a hair below the amount paid for the $10 offered above. Ex-Charles Colver collection sale, May, 1999, lot 1782."
