Stack's Bowers June 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71097

This specimen was lot 71097 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Groat, ND (1487). London Mint; mm: lis. Henry VII. PCGS MS-62. A well made issue that is seldom seen in Mint State. With an attractive steel gray patina, this should bring a premium bid." This type was struck in numerous varieties at London (S.2202-2206), Canterbury (S.2207-2211) and York (S.2212-2217). A halfgroat was tuppence.
