England (1436-38) noble Fr-124
This specimen was lot 33 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 33,000 CHF (about US$40,056 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Grossbritannien | Königreich. Henry VI. 1422-1461. Noble n. d. (1436-1438), London. Leaf-trefoil issue. Mintmark lis. Selten. NGC MS64+. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (kingdom of Great Britain, Henry VI, 1422-61, undated noble, London mint, lily mintmark. Rare, Magnificent condition.)"
The gold noble, originally 120 grains on its introduction, was reduced to 108 grains in 1412 with a value of six shillings eight pence. This was maintained thru the unhappy reign of Henry VI despite a gradually worsening shortage of bullion.
