This centavo was minted at Philadelphia for El Salvador 1942-72. The issues dated 1947, 1951 and 1952 were produced at the San Francisco Mint. On the obverse of the coin is the image of Francisco Morazán, who defeated Guatemalan attempts to conquer Central America, thereby establishing Salvadoran independence.

Recorded mintage: 5,000,000.

Specification: bronze, 2.5 g, 15 mm diameter.
