Steve Album sale 54, lot 417

This specimen was lot 417 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAHRI MAMLUK: Baybars II, 1309-1310, AV dinar, Dimashq, AH709, ruler cited as rukn al-dunya wa'l-din abu'l-fath baybars, with full mint above and full date below the reverse field, Unc, RRR. Three examples of Dimashq for Baybars II are already filed on CoinArchives, but this piece is the finest quality of the four!" The Mamluks held Damascus 1260-1516 despite invasions by the Mongols (1299-1300) and Timur (1400-01). Baybars II was sultan of Egypt for eleven months in 1309-10 before being executed by his successor, al-Nasir Muhammad.
