The coin shown is a 1 qirsh, composition billon, from the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text minted in Misr (Misr is Arabic for Egypt). The date is written as AH 1223 year 22, which translates to about 1828 AD.

The specimen shown was for sale as of May 17, 2011 at the Coin House SESAM Basel, for $171. The sale description reads "Ägypten OTTOMAN EGYPT Qirsh AH1223-22(1828) MAHMUD II billon XF # 42924 1828 vz"
