Egypt AH 1203(5) para
This specimen was lot 76441 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. Ottoman Empire. Para, AH 1203 Year 5 (1792/3). Cairo (Misr) Mint. Selim III. NGC AU-58." This type was struck regnal years 1-19 and has a very low catalog value. Its light weight and thin fabric make it more suitable as a bangle on a belly dancer's costume than a coin. Forty para made a qirsh. At this time, the Ottomans still had some control over Egypt, appointing the governor Safranbolulu Izzet Mehmet Pasha. The Napoleonic invasion of 1798 disrupted their regime and Egypt eventually fell into the hands of the Albanian Muhammed Ali in 1805. Ali's dynasty ruled Egypt until 1953.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.35 g, 0.035 fine silver, 15 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-134.
