Egypt AH 1187(2) 1/2 zeri mahbub
This coin is a gold half zeri mahbub, struck during the reign of Abdul Hamid I. The date AH 1187/2 which translates to 1779 AD. During this period, coins minted in Egypt were very similar in appearance to those struck in other parts of the Ottoman Empire. The obverse features the royal cypher of the sultan.
This specimen was lot 13172 in the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357 by Heritage Auctions. It sold on Sept 9, 2004 for $207. The catalog description noted, "Abdul Hamid I gold 1/2 Zeri Mahbub 1187/2 = 1192AH (1779), choice UNC, fully lustrous and very well struck for this normally crudely produced denomination. Very scarce grade. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
