This type was struck 1985-86 for Ecuador. The 1985 was struck in Werdohl, Germany, and the 1986 at the Royal Mint. Both dates are worthless in all grades. The sucre, adopted in 1884 and originally pegged to the U.S. dollar, was worth 25 to the dollar in 1970, 42 to the dollar in 1983 and 800 to the dollar in 1990. In January 2000, the president abolished the sucre (then worth 25,000 to the dollar) and made the U.S. dollar legal tender. Brass Sacagawea dollars circulate there, the locals identifying her as a native Quechua woman.
