This specimen was part of lot 34248 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Quintet of 1/4 Real Coins 1843 1849 1852 1855 1856, 1843 is scarce and G/VG. Other dates average F/VF." This type was struck 1849-56 and 1862 and is probably the most available predecimal Ecuadorean coin.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: .84 g, 0.667 fine silver.
