This specimen was lot 41115 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "ECUADOR. 1/4 Real, 1851-QUITO GJ. Quito Mint. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. A handsome uncirculated example of the date. The product of a bold strike, it shows sharp detail and shimmery luster throughout. Once lightly cleaned but now toned over to an alluring mottled tone. From the EMO Collection." This type was struck 1849-56 and 1862 and is probably the most available predecimal Ecuadorean coin.
