This specimen was lot 34238 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 4 Reales 1844-MV/A Fine. Quito mint, assayer, 'MV'. Reverse is weakly struck with some marks. A very scarce type." This type was struck 1844 only and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian four reales of 1830.
