This specimen was part of lot 34250 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Lot of Fifteen 2 Reales Coins, All different dates, average grade is Fine." This type was struck 1836-41 and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It varies from the later type (KM 21, struck 1837-38) in having the obverse and reverse legends transposed. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian two reales of 1830. It is among the earliest coins struck in Ecuador.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 5.8-6.1 g, 0.667 fine silver.
