This specimen was lot 11129 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $9,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. Ferro Carril De Costa Rica. 1 Peso, 15.4.1872. P-S234. This tremendously rare item is a piece which we have yet to encounter. We have handled a few of the change notes from this issue with all receiving heavy attention from bidders. The note shows nice appeal and color for the technical grade with mostly problem free paper, save for some staining in the top and bottom margins. Pleasing signatures along with an attractive nautical vignette at center. Each denomination from this series is listed as rare in the SCWPM."

Stack's Bowers 2016 ANA sale, lot 31245

El Banco Herediano. 25 Pesos, ND (188x). P-S183p. Uncirculated Apparent. Previously Mounted. Costa Rican specimen on cardstock free of any dates or signatures. Punch cancelled at the signature panel. We grade this uncirculated apparent because while the note is free of folds, it does have mounting remnants from being previously mounted."
