Dombes 1586 6 blancs
This specimen was lot 986 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, DOMBES, Principauté, François II de Bourbon-Montpensier (1582-1592), billon six blancs, 1586. D/ + FRANCIS P DOMBAR D MONTIS M Grand F couronné, entre trois lis. R/ + DNS ADIVT ET REDEM MEVS 1586 Croix fleurdelisée. De la plus haute rareté Frappe faible. Fines griffes. Beau à Très Beau. (France, principality of Dombes, Francis II (1582-92), billon six blancs of 1586. Obverse: large crowned "F" between three fleurs-de-lys; reverse: floriate cross. Extremely rare, weakly struck, fine scratches, fine to very fine.)"
The Dombes region lies south of Franche Comte and west of Savoy and was a fief of the Montpensier family. Dombes reverted to the crown of France on the death of the last heiress in 1693.
