This specimen was lot 1161 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Dombes. Ecu d'or or ½ Pistole, 1579. Duchy. Louis II de Bourbon-Montpensier, 1560-1582. Crowned coat-of-arms of Bourbon. Reverse: Floriated cross. Legend-No "S" of DNS. NGC graded About Uncirculated Detail (Cleaned)." The Dombes region lies south of Franch Comte and west of Savoy and was a fief of the Montpensier family. Several dates are known of this type.
