This specimen was lot 1004 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Dombes. Louis II of Bourbon-Montpensier (1560-1582). Gold 2 Ecu d'or or 1 Pistole, 1578. Crowned shield of Bourbon, leg: LVDO P DOMBARVM D MONTISP. Rev. Flowered cross, leg: DNS ADIVT AND REDEM MEVS, date, Well struck and lustrous. The only one graded at PCGS. In PCGS holder graded AU 58." The Dombes region lies south of Franch Comte and west of Savoy and was a fief of the Montpensier family.
