This specimen was lot 23728 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Christian IX Ore 1881, AU55 BN NGC, a most attractive example of this very rare date with sharp details and glossy brown surfaces. One of the key rarities in the Danish decimal series." This type was struck 1874-92 for Christian IX (1863-1906) as king of Denmark. It is common as a type but many of the dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 260,000 (the key date).
