This specimen was lot 1635 in Goldberg sale 81 (Los Angeles, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark. Proof 10 Kroner, 1877. Christian IX, 1863-1906. Seldom seen in proof. Very Rare. NGC graded Proof 64." This specimen was struck during the reign of Christian IX (1863-1906). The Scandinavian countries (Norway, Denmark and Sweden) formed their own monetary union in competition with the Latin Monetary Union based on the French twenty francs d'or. Like that union, the Scandinavian Monetary Union lasted until World War One blasted all hard currencies out of existence. The ten kroner shown here was issued 1873-74, 1877 and 1890 in fairly small numbers compared to the larger twenty kroner.
