This specimen was lot 31294 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Rigsdaler, 1863. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik VII. NGC MS-62. Sharply struck with an attractive arrangement of orange, red, and yellow tone that concentrates around the edges on both sides and adds an pleasant glow to the appearance. As a type, far SCARCER than the dual busted commemorative type that b[ear]s the same date." After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This coin, struck 1854-56 and 1863, was also made in Altona in Schleswig-Holstein. The initials "RH" stood for mintmaster Petr Rasmus Hinnerup. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = 1 krone.
