Sincona sale 77, lot 2110

This specimen was lot 2110 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 30 CHF (about US$37 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK, Christian VII. 1766-1808. 1/15 Speciesdaler 1796, Altona. Sehr schön. (kingdom of Denmark, Christian VII. 1766-1808. 1/15 Speciesdaler 1796, Altona mint. Very fine.)"

This very obscure type was struck 1796-99 and lacks a photo in the SCWC. Coinage from Denmark for the last decades of the eighteenth century is very scanty. The initials MF stood for Michael Flor, mintmaster at Altona 1787-1818.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.500 fine silver, this specimen 3.35 g.

Catalog reference: KM 652, Hede 15. Sieg 20.
