Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 45606

This specimen was lot 45606 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Danzig. Ort (1/4 Taler), 1617-SA. Danzig Mint. Sigismund III. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. A well struck Ort with sharp detail throughout, pleasing gray toning, and a slightly off-centered strike that does not cut any part of the peripheral legend." This type was struck 1617-21 with various mintmasters and is not rare. An ort = ¼ thaler = ten groszy.
