Czechoslovakia 1930 10 dukatu
This specimen was lot 30005 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $84,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "CZECHOSLOVAKIA. 10 Ducats, 1930. Kremnica Mint. NGC MS-65. Exceedingly RARE and highly desired on account of the massive size of the coin and its import, this marvelous Gem displays a measure of exacting detail that perfectly conveys the artfully minimal design. Attractively lustered, this handsome beauty offers a commendable amount of sheen and shimmer, with light reflectivity throughout. Touches of smoky almond toning pepper the surfaces, adding a depth of character to this lofty piece. About as elusive as a 20th Century European piece can be, this 10 Ducats can command attention from all quarters, and is ensured a plethora of intense bidding. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck 1929-38 and 1951 along with a dukat, 2 dukaty and 5 dukatu. This type is rarely seen circulated, suggesting the hoarding of what few examples escaped government vaults. The obverse portrait is of "good" king Wenceslas, he of the well-known Christmas carol.
