The Banco Mercantil de Veracruz opened in 1898 and operated until the 1920's, after Carranza cancelled all bank charters. Five, ten, twenty, fifty, 100, 500 and 1000 peso notes exist altho only the five, ten and twenty are available. This $5 was issued 1898 thru 1905 and is common. The series of 1910 is the most common. Fives with the Orizaba, Xalapa or San Andres Tuxtla overprints also exist. This note printed by ABNCo and measures 184 x 82 mm.

The Banco Mercantil de Veracruz opened in 1898 and operated until the 1920's, after Carranza cancelled all bank charters. Five, ten, twenty, fifty, 100, 500 and 1000 peso notes exist altho only the five, ten and twenty are available. This $20 was issued 1898 thru 1905 and this specimen has a Xalapa overpriint, which earns a slight premium. Twenties with the Orizaba overprint also exist. This note printed by ABNCo and measures 184 x 82 mm.
