Certificat de Liberation Economique

The first specimen was lot 560 in Ponterio sale 145 (Chicago, April 2009), where it sold for $184. The catalog description noted, "HAITI. 100 Gourdes, 1.10.1962. P-504. Certificat de Liberation Economique Note. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED-UNCIRCULATED."

This note is from the tenth issue under the law of 12 April 1919 and is the first appearance of the portrait of François Duvalier, president of Haiti from 1957 until his death in 1971. It was printed by the American Bank Note Company and has catalog number Pick-200. It was accompanied by two, five, ten, fifty, hundred, 200 and 500 gourdes notes. None are dated but were superseded by the eleventh issue of 1973, after Papa Doc's death. It is worthless.
