This type was struck for Cuba in 1962 and 1968. The type is common today. It and an accompanying forty centavos (KM 32) were the first coins issued by the Castro regime after its takeover in 1959. Aluminum one and five centavos appeared later. Silver issues for circulation ceased in 1953.
