This specimen was lot 45918 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "CROATIA. 500 Kuna, 1997. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. Vukovar issue." Vukovar is a town on the Danube in Croatia. Depicted on the obverse is the Vučedol Dove, an ancient ritual vessel (circa 2500 B.C.) found nearby. This design was also used on a silver 150 kuna (KM 67). In 1994, the dinar was superseded by the kuna (1 kuna = 1000 dinara). The kuna, in turn, was replaced by the euro in 2023.
