This specimen exemplifies the dreadful state of modern coin design. The drab, low relief design, accentuated by the dull material, failed to inspire any but the most devoted collectors of Central American coins. This type was struck 2005 and 2008 in aluminum. Per xe.com, the exchange rate in 2008 was US$1 = 500 colones. It is now (July 2017) about US$1 = 572 colones.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.13 g, aluminum.

Catalog reference: KM 228b.
