from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70420

This specimen was lot 70420 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $552. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. Gold 25,000 Colones, 1987. NGC PROOF-69 ULTRA CAMEO. Portrait of President Dr. Oscar Arias Sanchez on obverse. Struck at the Sherrit Mint, Toronto. Mintage of only 5,000. Brilliant with hard mirror fields and frosted cameo devices." There was also 100 colones (nickel) and 1000 colones (silver) with this design.

Recorded mintage: 5,000.

Specification: 15 g, 0.900 fine gold.
