The first specimen was lot 3430 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $111.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. 5 Centimos, 1912-GCR. NGC MS-67. Tied with seven others as the finest certified. Light peripheral toning with full attractive satin luster. A sparkling little gem." This type, struck 1905 and 1910-14, is the only five centimos issued between the introduction of the colon in 1897 and its first reform in 1917. It is common.
