This specimen was part of lot 27080 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $881.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic Lot of Two 50 Centimos Coins 1902 1903, 1902 is VF, 1903 is choice AU. These are the only two years of the type. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This type was struck in 1902 (scarce), 1903 (scarce) and 1914 (rare). The 1902 and some 1903 were made in San José; most 1903's and all of the 1914's were struck in Philadelphia. The colon was introduced in 1897 and reformed in 1917 and 1920.
