Congo 2015 1000 francs
This specimen was lot 74467 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "CONGO. 1000 Francs, 2015. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Featuring the big horned ram." This Congo is the former French colony west of the Congo River, not the former Belgian colony once known as Zaire. This country is often referred to as Congo-Brazzaville to prevent confusion. Altho the Congolese landscape teems with wildlife, wild sheep are not found there. This was probably struck to mark the Year of the Goat.
Recorded mintage: 1,500 struck at B. H. Mayer Kunstprageanstalt, Karlsfeld, Germany.
Specification: 0.5 g, 0.999 fine gold, 11 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: Fr-21; KM-179.
