This specimen was lot 18335 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $4,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Second Offering In Six Decades, Upland, CA - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 652 The Commercial NB Ch. # (P)9570. This is Upland's rare bank, which issued large notes only. Just five notes are known from here, with this the highest grade of the group. Notes from this bank are very closely held and have proved just about impossible for collectors to obtain, with the one prior appearance of any kind from here coming when we sold a pair from here, including this example, as part of the Colver collection five years ago. Very Fine-Extremely Fine, the signatures faded."
