This ten centavos was struck in Bogotá, Colombia, of a type issued 1945-52. This type, with the portrait of hero Francisco de Santander, superseded the Bolivar head type last struck in 1911-42. The date is common but many of the issues have overdates. The year 1952 also saw the introduction of the copper-nickel ten centavos featuring the head of chief Calarca.
